Laser Hair Removal Pre- and Post-treatment Client Instructions
Prior to Treatment
- Do not pluck, wax, use a depilatory, or undergo electrolysis in the areas you wish to have treated for 6 weeks prior to laser hair removal.
- Do not tan the areas to be treated for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid using self-tanning products for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Please come to salon for your treatment with hair shaved unless instructed by the salon otherwise.
- Do not use photo-sensitive drugs** for 7 days prior to treatment.
- If you are on hydroquinone, stop 2 weeks before treatment.
- Buy sunscreen, SPF30 or greater, prior to treatment.
After Treatment
- Some redness, tenderness, and swelling in the area is normal after treatment and may feel similar to a sunburn. This should resolve within several hours to several days after treatment. Use cold compresses or ice to reduce swelling and remove heat.
- You can use over the counter sunburn products or hydrocortisone ointment/cream to reduce the redness, swelling, and tenderness.
- Blisters may occur in sensitive areas (bikini line, neck areas). If so, apply polysporin twice daily until healed.
- Oozing, crusting and scabbing may occur within 1 - 3 days. Do not pick or remove scabs. Do not shave the area. Apply Vitamin E or Aloe Vera to keep the area moist.
- Avoid using underarm deodorants if you had that area treated until the next day.
- Avoid irritants (glycolics, retinoids etc.) for seven days after treatment.
- Apply sunscreen minimum of SPF30 for 6 weeks over the treated area and avoid direct sun and sun bed for 2 months.
- Do not sit in hot baths or hot tubs if you have had your legs or bikini treated.
- Pigment change (hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation) will usually disappear within weeks.
If you have any concerns after the treatment, please call the salon back. We want to know and have your best outcome in mind. (780) 488 - 8874.
